Healthy soil brings vigorous plants, stronger and smarter people, cultural empowerment, and the wealth of a nation. ~ Dan Barber, The Third Plate
An experiential regenerative farm and hospitality center that invites farmers and consumers to learn about regenerative food and farming.
It is estimated that in 60 years all of our topsoil in America will be gone, if we continue farming in the conventional manner that the majority of our farms practice. Despite higher and higher consumer demand (an estimated 30-40% of consumers), only 3-5% of our land is even farmed organically. This doesn’t bode well for the future of our topsoil, which ultimately means the future of our food, and how we nourish ourselves. Indeed, many experts attribute the severe health decline in the US associated with extensive cases of obesity, diabetes, and other metabolic diseases are attributed to the high consumption of processed foods, utilizing the GMO subsidized cash crops that make up most of our farmland – soy, corn and wheat. Most of what we grow in America, we don’t even eat. We use it for feed for factory farmed animals, which is continuing to degrade our topsoil, and further the climate crisis with increased carbon emissions. It seems and feels dismal and heavy. Not only are we losing the fight against climate change, but our clean water and nutrient dense food is also at risk.
If I told you there was a simple solution – as simple as the dirt you stand on – to these crises, would you want to know about it? And if I told you that this solution is not expensive, does not require intense or expensive technology, is not innovative but historic, and can completely reverse climate change, would you want to do everything you could to help implement this solution?
The fact is that it can. Through the practice of Regenerative Agriculture – where we cultivate healthy soils that are alive with organic matter – we can actually not only help with capturing carbon from the atmosphere, we can clean and capture our water, reverse desertification, mitigate waste with composting, and return nutrients to our food supply. It truly is a magic bullet that will need to be how the world moves forward in agriculture – but at this point in time, we are severely behind the timeline in order to reverse global warming enough to avoid the 3 degrees of temperature increase. We have no more time to waste. We NEED to act now.
This is where The Grace + Vine Foundation for Regenerative Living is committed to acting now – in order to spread the important work and message of Regenerative Agriculture – to help farmers overcome the barriers that keep them from farming regeneratively – to help educate the public so that they may make informed choices when it comes to the purchase food and goods, and to advocating in our local, state and national governments in order to affect policy so that all of America may move away from conventional and toward Regenerative Farming Practices.
The Center for Regenerative Food & Farming will be the hub of the Foundation’s programs, and will work to recreate itself in other suburban areas around the country. The more that we can educate and help to make both practitioners and consumers aware, engaged and participating, the sooner that we can actually start to reverse what can only be the greatest calamity of the human race… the time is now. Please join our work. Click here to Participate. And if this moves you, I ask that you share it as far and as wide as you can.
